The FAITH Dance Project Press ReleaseContact: Erin Drennan, Artistic Director631-645-3708For Immediate ReleaseOctober 2010That Awful CinderellaThe FAITH Dance Project, a children’s pre-professional ballet company based in Merrick, and the students of Integral Movement Arts performed That AWFUL Cinderella on October 21st at 7:30PM, at the Bellmore Movie Theater on Pettit Avenue. The retake on the classic Cinderella tale was a fundraiser to raise money for the American Lung Association. This is the project’s six annual performance raising money for the NYS American Lung Association for asthma research in memory of Faith Floridia. The project's total contribution reached over $5000 this year. The cast learned new choreography by Artistic Director Erin Drennan to Prokofiev’s score of Cinderella. That AWFUL Cinderella portrays a new perspective on the traditional story as Cinderella’s doting older sisters want nothing more than what’s best for her, though she can be a difficult little sister at times. Only their mother was invited to the masquerade ball at the castle and Cinderella doesn’t understand why she can’t go. She sneaks out of the house and through the forest against the advice of the enchanted dancing clock that reminds her it’s past her bedtime. Once in the forest, an old, magical beggar-lady appears and helps grant Cinderella her wish to attend the ball as the fairies and dragonflies light her way. She arrives at the ball and she is frightened by the masked dancers. As the night wears on she searches for a way out but to no avail. She knows if she’s still there at midnight she’ll get caught sneaking out and be in big trouble with her mother and sisters.
In addition to many hours of technique classes and rehearsals each week, members of the FAITH Dance Project also participate in the entire production of each ballet presented. Intermediate to advanced level ballet students are involved with every aspect of production including rehearsals, setting choreography, scenery and costumes, lighting, programs and literature as well as the selection of the repertoire.
