Integral Movement Arts Opening
A student of Frank Ohman, former soloist with New York City Ballet, and dancer with the New York Dance Theatre has opened the doors to Integral Movement Arts: Dance and Yoga in Merrick. The studio, under the direction of Erin Drennan, offers premier ballet training in addition to jazz, tap, hip hop and contemporary dance for limited enrollment, professional-track students.
Integral will be the new home of the FAITH Dance Project, a Nassau County children’s ballet theater company that give professional-track children an opportunity to perform new and reset ballet choreography. Integral offers the personal attention with limited enrollment without the premium price tag.
“It’s important not to lose children’s interest in ballet on Long Island,” said Drennan. “The kids want to do what’s easy and fun and we’re losing a very valuable tradition. The most important thing is to keep them engaged and interested and to instill the unique appreciation that only comes from this kind of discipline.”
Erin has watched her students cast in leading roles on Broadway, selected for placement in top ballet schools across the country and pursue professional careers in dance.
“As my teacher would say (Frank Ohman), this is not a fast-food dancing school where you come in and leave happy,” said Drennan. “This is training; you leave better …well, hopefully happy too.”
